Teeter-totter

I’m a bad blogger sometimes.  For instance, this week.  I didn’t have anything out on Monday, which was a holiday here in the US, and I didn’t have anything prepared for today before today actually rolled around.

Now, I’m not a “regular” kind of person.  I don’t have much in the way of biorhythms and I’m easily distracted.  So, I’m the kind of person who gets halfway toward hanging my keys up on their little hook, but sets them on the counter when I see the mail sitting there (and later can’t find my keys).  Still, I’d been pretty good about  blogging… until this week. 1st Blogiversary

I had to look up exactly which day in January I started my blog last year.  It turns out it was the 4th.  Really?  The 4th?  I thought it was closer to February.  Actually, I was thinking it was in February.

Nope.  It’s the 4th – making today the 1-year mark.

To celebrate (now that we’re all celebrated out from the last month of holiday stuff), I’m going to give some highlights and insights from the last year. Continue Reading

… waiting … and waiting …

Did I mention that I’m impatient?

This technological age should be my cup of tea.  I can text some one and get a reply in seconds most of the time.

I also refuse to answer the phone these days, so I must not be completely into instant gratification.  Or maybe I just want it for me and no one else.  :)

Instant Gratification

Anyway, right now I’m waiting to hear back from one of my dear friends whom (or is it who?  I probably ought to know) I’ve never met – Kate of 4amwriter.com.

She very graciously agreed to read the first few pages of my WIP that I have rewritten in 1st person.  This is invaluable as I trust that if it totally sucks, she’s the sort of friend who will let me know (perhaps saving me from rewriting the whole thing a second time), but would also put it much more nicely than “this totally sucks.”

But now that I’ve sent it off, I want to hear back.  Now.  RIGHT now.  Or, maybe 2 minutes ago when I sent it.  Of course, this is not fair to Kate, as she might, I don’t know, have a life besides sitting at the keyboard waiting for my emails.

Did anyone ever tell you that trying to reason with a person’s desires is like trying to put out a wildfire with a watering can?  No? Well, it is.

So, for those of you who have submitted things to agents/publishers – is the waiting this bad?  Does it get better with practice?

Oh, Kate (I know you’re reading this), no need to hurry with that ;)

(disclaimer: By the time this is posted, several days after I sent that email,  I’ll probably have heard back from Kate, who is one of the fastest replyers on the internet.  She is that awesome.  Check out her blog, ok?  It’s worth it… and I’m not just saying that because she’s doing me a huge favor.)

WTF, WordPress??

Update: I am officially daring WordPress to FP this post!

I have been blogging for less than a year. In that time, WordPress has had multiple changes. Their main page (wordpress.com) has changed a few times. They added country stats (a good thing!). They made stats not available from certain places (ok, whatever).

Now they’ve gone too far. Continue Reading
