Procrastination Wants to Be Your Friend

Procrastination.  We all do it.  I’m here to tell you procrastination isn’t all that bad.  In fact, it wants to be your friend.

Really.

Procrastination gets dumped on because of what it keeps you from doing.  But, as with almost everything, there is a flip side.  When you procrastinate, you have to procrastinate by doing something. Continue Reading

The Case For Passive Voice

I’ve had this discussion a few times in comments on other posts in the blogosphere, but I thought it deserved its own time in the limelight.

There are grammar junkies out there who were taught (or otherwise believe) that passive voice is wrong.  It is bad.  It is NOT TO BE DONE.  If you show up to your writing group they will find and pick out each and every one (if your writing group isn’t as friendly as mine).

The Hunger Games Movie

The Hunger Games (film)

I’d like to mention that I live in a box.  By this, I mean that I don’t have TV, rarely listen to the radio, and generally have no idea what’s going on in TV or what’s coming out in the movies.  So, when I read The Hunger Games trilogy in January/February of this year, I had no clue it was going to be a movie.  For that matter, I only figured it out maybe 3 weeks ago when I caught half an ad on the radio.

IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE BOOK OR SEEN THE MOVIE, DON’T CONTINUE READING BECAUSE THERE WILL BE SOME SPOILERS AFTER THIS LINE.  OKAY?? Continue Reading

Writing Workshops

Reblogged from 4amWriter:

I recently posted about my friend, Kady, who gave herself her own February NaNoWriMo challenge. She completed the challenge, writing 50,000 words of a story. But now she says, she’s clueless about what to do next.

My suggestion to her, and to anyone who might be “between” drafts or having trouble with an area in their novel, is to seek out a writing workshop.

I asked my blogging friend Kate to write something up about writing workshops (because I'm interested and have no clue about them). She did a great post on it - check it out.
